Cartilage Health - All it takes is a JUMP!

CARTILAGE HEALTH

All it takes is a JUMP!

Researchers from Johns Hopkins University, US, found that jump training thrice a week led to thicker, healthier cartilage with normal cellular structure in the mice.

Marco Chiaberge, an astrophysicist at Johns Hopkins University, the Space Telescope Science Institute, and The European Space Agency, said “The positive effect we saw in these mice is huge, and the magnitude of it was unexpected. They can basically make their cartilage thicker if they jump.”

Significance of Cartilage in the Human Body

1. Structural Support

Cartilage provides shape and support to structures like the nose, ears, and trachea, maintaining their form and function.

2. Joint Cushioning and Movement

It cushions joints, reducing friction between bones and enabling smooth, pain-free movement.

3. Shock Absorption

Cartilage absorbs impact in weight-bearing joints, protecting bones from damage

.

4. Bone Development

It serves as a precursor for bone formation during fetal development and growth.

5. Limited Healing Ability

Lacking blood supply, cartilage heals slowly when damaged, making joint health crucial.

6. Essential for Mobility

Its flexibility and resilience ensure stability, movement, and overall musculoskeletal function.

Stay aware, stay healthy!
